Sound-attenuating materials: independent advice based on measurement data.
Hundreds of products claim to be sound-attenuating: acoustic mats, insulation panels, spray insulation, sound panels, acoustic glass, acoustic doors and the popular foam-cone panels. The choice is overwhelming and the marketing claims are often misleading.

Foam-cone panels on the wall: have no measurable effect on sound insulation. They only absorb some high frequencies and lower reverberation, but do not insulate. Thin acoustic mats on the floor: dampen at most a few dB in the higher frequency range, while the problem is often in the low frequencies (bass, footsteps). Egg cartons on the wall: a persistent myth without any effect. Foam rubber strips around doors: do help against airborne sound through gaps, but not against structure-borne sound.

Why independent advice is essential
KGI Groep does not sell products and has no interest in a specific brand or type of material. We advise solely based on measurement data and calculations. By first measuring which frequencies and sound levels cause the problem, we determine which materials and thicknesses are effective in your specific situation. This prevents costly mistakes.
What do we advise on?
Sound-insulating underlays and screeds. Lining walls and sound-insulating interior walls. Suspended ceilings with acoustic insulation. Acoustic glass and frames. Acoustic doors. Sound-attenuating ventilation (acoustic vents, dampened grilles). Enclosures for heat pumps and AC units. Acoustic absorption material for reverberation control.
Lab values versus reality
Manufacturers measure in ideal laboratory conditions: a standardised concrete floor, no flanking paths, perfect installation. In practice the improvement is 30-50% lower. We specify based on practical experience and measurement data what you can actually expect. No promises, just facts.
