Noise in your hotel? We improve sleep comfort.

Negative reviews about noise on Booking.com or TripAdvisor are a direct risk to your occupancy rate and revenue. Guests who hear conversations from the adjacent room, are woken by footsteps in the corridor or are bothered by a humming air conditioner do not return. KGI Groep is the author of NHR-ACOUSTICS-01:2025, the international guideline for acoustic comfort in hotels.

The NHR-ACOUSTICS-01:2025 guideline

The guideline defines two comfort classes: Class A (premium, for boutique hotels and the higher segment) and Class B (standard, achievable for every hotel). The guideline is product-neutral, performance-based and internationally applicable. Usable in specifications, Programmes of Requirements, brand standards and tender specifications. You can request the guideline free of charge.

What do we measure in hotels?

Sound insulation between rooms (room-room, room-corridor, room-plant room) compliant with NEN 5077 and NEN-EN-ISO 16283. Installation noise (AC, ventilation, lift, water pipes). Façade insulation (traffic noise, environmental noise). The measurement results are tested against the NHR comfort classes and the requirements from the BBL. Based on the results we advise per problem area.

Common guest complaints

Airborne noise from adjacent rooms (voices, TV, music). Impact noise in corridors (footsteps on hard floors, roller suitcases). Installation noise (AC kicking in at night, lift passing). Environmental noise from traffic or hospitality. Each type of noise requires a specific approach and different measures.

Concrete improvement measures

We advise product-neutral: wall insulation between rooms, sound-dampening floor covering in corridors, vibration dampers under AC units, acoustic glass in the façade. For renovation we guide the process from design to post-measurement. Hotels that meet the NHR requirements receive the Quiet Room Label.
